From Family Heritage to Global Innovation

My name is River, the founder of PlArmor and the next-generation leader of the ShangJi family business.

First Encounter with the Factory

Before I was born, my grandfather had already established a toy factory. By the time my earliest memories formed, my after-school hours were mostly spent in that factory. My parents were always busy moving between workshops, leaving me unsupervised—often tinkering with hammers and calipers, measuring anything I could find. As the toy factory expanded, so did its packaging needs. This led my parents to consider starting a plastic packaging business. After discussions with my grandfather and securing his financial support, ShangJi Blister Packaging Factory was officially founded in 1990.

My First Job

At the age of 10, I began helping out with simple tasks after school. Back then, there were no automated machines—every step was done manually. The most critical process was heating the plastic sheets. Workers had to clamp the sheets into wooden frames and place them in the oven, timing it perfectly: overheating would warp, discolor, or even ignite the material, while underheating would ruin the molding. It was then that I first realized—success is built on accumulated experience.

Understanding True Quality

My parents often said: "Quality determines survival—if you’re going to do it, do it flawlessly." As both owners and factory managers, they were always the first to arrive and the last to leave. In my memory, they never took a day off—yes, not even weekends. They were constantly thinking: How can we make packaging more visually appealing? How can we ensure the snap buttons fasten more securely? How can we optimize space efficiency? I still remember the early 2000s when Panasonic came to Cixi searching for packaging suppliers. None of the other blister factories could meet their requirements—only ours could. Under my parents’ leadership, ShangJi Blister Packaging Factory delivered.

Taking the First Step in Innovation

Gradually, we built a strong reputation in Ningbo, partnering with renowned brands like Bull Electrical, Deli Stationery, and Fujiya Confectionery. As I became more involved in the industry, I realized the market was evolving—so were customer demands. Relying solely on past experience was no longer enough to meet global expectations. So, I began asking: How can we maintain our commitment to quality while making the brand more competitive? That’s how PlArmor was born.

I was an international student at the University of Delaware in the United States. I changed my English name from Leo to River because I wanted to be different.The original intention of creating PlArmor was simple: to let the world know Shangji and the real me.We can talk about packaging, travel, and even your wild plans - because I believe that business starts with sincere connections.Contact me

Shifting from Factory Mindset to Brand Mindset

When I took over, I realized we were more of a factory than a brand. Clients came to us for packaging, but they didn’t know we could also offer customized, eco-friendly, and smart solutions.

So, I rebranded us:

  • We’re not just manufacturers—we’re Packaging Solution Providers.
  • Launched PlArmor, built a global website, and elevated our brand image.
  • Transitioned from OEM to ODM, offering design expertise to add value.
  • Upgraded our team with young, internationally minded talent to expand overseas.

Going Global, Introducing PlArmor to the World

Breaking into international markets was tough. With so many competitors, how could PlArmor stand out?

I targeted niche markets with high demands for quality and sustainability:

  • High-end electronics packaging – Anti-static vacuum forming for delicate components.
  • Food-grade packaging – Eco-friendly materials meeting EU/US safety standards.
  • Cosmetic packaging – Custom designs to enhance brand premiumness.

After years of effort, our products now reach North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia, with long-term partnerships in place.
